From The Publisher's Pen
Starting a Fresh Year

What is new for 2010? I am proud to announce that this January 2010 issue of the Slippery Rock Gazette is our first all-color edition. Other changes are more subtle, like the UV coating on each page to give greater clarity to the photographs and make our monthly paper clearer and easier to read. We have also added four more pages of high gloss paper, which will enable us to do a better job reproducing color on detailed and intricate photographs, and perhaps do justice to the beautiful work found in the shops, quarries and studios that we profile.

What remains the same? Our writers will continue to go to great lengths to find interesting stories. Our regular columnists will continue to make cogent and pithy observations about life and modern society, and we will continue to look for stone industry commentary for our Soapbox column as well as your letters to the editor.

As the year unfolds, we hope to be able to bring stories of new materials, new processes and new services that will be of interest to our readers. We have been learning about the evolving world of decorative and polished concrete, for both floors and countertops. For example, did you know that bee's wax is the most-recommended product to be rubbed into concrete countertops? Life and the stone and tile industry are full of surprizes and opportunities to learn.

I hope that you enjoy this month's offering.

Thanks for reading,

Rich Hassert
