The National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA), the largest tile contractors association in the world, presented John Cox from Cox Tile, San Antonio, Texas, with the tile person of the year award at NTCA's annual Total Solutions Conference last September in San Antonio, Texas.
John Cox, is a first generation tile contractor whose original aspirations were in wildlife biology. His career in tilesetting sprang from a parttime job as a helper while taking college courses. He became captivated by the mechanics, artistry and challenges of working with tile and moved into a tilesetter position. Always interested in learning and excelling, he voraciously consumed information from tile books and magazines and practiced at home with biters and a hand cutter. After 4 1/2 years as an hourly tilesetter, he worked as a subcontractor for two years at a different company.
A local builder and friend encouraged him to start his own business - Cox Tile, which he established in 1981. He has a reputation for high quality, high-end work, a solid warranty and superior customer service with a specialty in high-end residential homes. Quality, integrity and craftsmanship are the pillars of his success. John is a proud member of the NTCA, and currently serves as its 2008-2010 President. He is also a member and former president of the San Antonio Executives Association and Chairman of their Annual Wild Game Dinner.
