Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem Dry Bones

Resident Scary Movie Buff

A real estate agent showing a house in Louisiana got to the basement and found about 100 human bones in a corner.

James Kenny, a forensic investigator with the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office, says the bones found were so old that dirt had saturated the marrow inside them. He says they probably are remains of Native Americans buried long before the house was built.

Kenny says he learned that the previous residents would often find bones while mowing the lawn or doing yard work, and would put them in the basement, out of "respect."

Half of the split-level house is on top of a circular mound, which parish officials suggest may be an Indian burial mound.

Neither the agent nor the home's owner would talk to The Courier of Houma.

Didn't someone make a movie with this plot? I distinctly recall a movie character saying, "You removed the headstones, but you didn't remove the bodies, didn't ya?" Somehow, I feel that Stephen King could have a field day with this!

First of all, if you were constantly digging up old bones in your backyard, wouldn't you alert officials of some kind? It just doesn't seem right to me to have such a nonchalant attitude about it and toss them on a pile in the corner.

Maybe I've seen too many scary movies to be shocked by this story. However, I would have very strong reservations about living on top of a burial ground with the bones still in it. Didn't any of these people see "Poltergeist?"

Secondly, why would you put a house on the market and leave bones just lying in corner of the basement? I know I'm not the only one that watches HGTV's "Get It Sold!" This isn't a seller's market. I'm guessing the agent will have a fun time unloading this house.
