A Case of Mistaken Identity

New york city police are blaming a computer glitch for dozens of mistaken visits to an elderly couple's Brooklyn home.

World War II veteran Walter Martin and his 82-year-old wife, Rose, say police have come looking for criminals at their house about 50 times in the past eight years.

One Thursday, detectives went to see the Martins again, this time to apologize.

The detectives told Rose Martin that Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly had ordered them to solve the problem, which was publicized in the New York Daily News.

Police say the problem dates back to 2002, when the Martins' address was used to test a police computer system. Authorities couldn't explain why the couple's address was used as a test case, but it apparently hadn't been properly removed.
