Remember to Shut the Lid

Once there was a little boy who lived in the country. For their "facilities," they had to use an old 1-seater outhouse. The little boy hated it because it was hot in the summer, cold in the winter and stank all the time.

The outhouse was sitting on the bank of a creek and the boy determined that one day he would push that outhouse into the water.

One morning after a particularly hard spring rain, the creek was so swollen it was up to the brink of the bank, so the little boy decided it would be a perfect day to tip the hated outhouse into the creek. He got a stout tree branch knocked down by the storm, levered it under the hated structure and pushed with all his might. Finally, the outhouse toppled into the loud, fast-running creek and floated away.

That night his dad told him they were going to the woodshed after supper. Knowing that meant a spanking, the little boy asked why.

His dad replied, "Well, someone pushed the outhouse into the creek today. It was you, wasn't it, son?"

The boy said, "Yessir."

Then he thought a moment and said, "Dad, I read in school today that little George Washington chopped down a cherry tree, but didn't get into trouble because he was brave, honest and told the truth."

His dad replied, "That may be true son, but I suspect George Washington's pop wasn't a-sitting in that cherry tree like a Blue Jay!"
