Beautify America: Eliminate Green Bathtubs

HGTV offers a variety of shows focusing on how to improve the value of homes. My favorite shows center on olive green bathtubs. Let's face it, an olive green, 1950's style bathtub is a problem that needs a solution. No amount of paint, candles and big fluffy towels can really hide a green bathtub.

Retro and nostalgia decorating themes can help and might even work for a pink bathtub, but unless you really want to win the Tackiest Bath prize and have your bathroom go viral on YouTube, you will need to perform major surgery.

Like other forms of elective surgery, there are always options. One novel solution is to have your bathtub painted by franchised tub painters, and if you like the cheap paint on enamel look, this might be your best option. You could replace it with a new bathtubof course you probably will have to break the old one to get it out and tear out your door jams to get the new one in, only to find the new tub is, except for color, inferior to the old one.

The more adventurous might break the old tub and replace it with a plastic preformed shower kit. This option may look a little cheap but it does get rid of the dreaded green bathtub.

Anyway, about 10 minutes into the show, the TV host tells the hapless homeowner that their house will never sell and will probably have to be torn down because of the green bathtub. Blood pressure is rising, tears flowing and deep depression setting in.

You probably have seen these types of shows and have sympathy for the home owner. You will be happy to learn that an American company, headquartered in Western Michigan has used cando, Yankee ingenuity to solve this pressing social problem and to help beautify America. Noble Company makes a preformed, ready-to-tile shower base, sized to replace the dreaded green bathtub. The product is called Noble ProBaseTM. Not only does the product work great, it saves labor and enables the workers to get the job done with a minimum of fuss and wasted time so they can get on to the next home improvement challenge. Of course, you can find ProBaseTM at Braxton-Bragg.

For those really shooting for the prize, the end drain option makes the perfect platform for a European style doorless shower using natural stone. With a shower like that, the home sale is all but guaranteed.
