Tile Redi® Installed for Ft. Lee Military
AIT Barracks by Purcell Construction

Tile Redi®, the leading manufacturer of one-piece, preformed shower pan modules for time and labor saving leak-proof installations, has supplied Purcell Construction Corp. with over 2,000 tile ready® shower pans and accessory products for phases I and II of the extensive new construction taking place at Fort Lee, Virginia, the United States Army base home to nearly 3,200 military personnel.

Headquartered in Watertown, New York, since 1973, Purcell Construction is a general construction and design/build contractor with specific expertise in commercial and military projects. The company was awarded the North Range Project at Fort Lee that was completed in June of 2009, as well as the TA5 Barracks Project consisting of three housing barracks each for 624 soldiers. Purcell Construction's commitment to the design/build methodology is based largely on creating a cohesive team and meant to help minimize costs and save time. By specifying Tile Redi®, the shower installation portion of the project is a fast, efficient process that results in high-quality, leak-proof showers complete with fully integrated drains, curbs and splash walls. Tile Redi® shower pans are ULlisted and arrive as pre-formed, one-piece modules already pre-pitched for easy drainage and immediately ready for porcelain, ceramic, stone or glass tiles. By solving water intrusion problems without the need for timely, costly mortar bed preparations or applications of liquid applied waterproofing membranes, Tile Redi® helped Purcell Construction stay on target with the U.S. Army's demanding completion schedule and will guarantee the family-owned company there won't be additional call-backs relative to the installation of 2,000 showers.

In addition, Tile Redi® has developed the innovative Tile Redi® Soap & Shampoo Niche system that like its shower pans arrive as onepiece modules that can be quickly and easily installed without the tedious labor costs associated with preparing the cement backer board and creating each individual niche. Tile Redi® also offers the Redi Flash® system for advanced protection against water leaking over or behind the splash walls and penetrating the finished installation. Tile Redi® produces designer drain plates in several different colors and finishes as part of its comprehensive system.

Fort Lee, named in honor of General Robert E. Lee, the most famous Confederate Civil War commander, was officially commissioned as a United States Army base in 1941 but boasts over 10,000 years of history as a pivotal meeting place between Petersburg and City Point, Virginia, both vital supply and communication centers on the Appomattox River. Currently, Fort Lee serves as the focal point for Army Logistics and provides support to U.S. Army Joint Coalition efforts around the world. The base at Fort Lee is home to 3,200 military personnel and equally as many families. On any given day 3,000 to 4,200 soldiers are on the grounds to receive advanced individual training.

Tile Redi patented and UL-listed shower pans are manufactured as pre-formed, one-piece shower modules. Complete with fully integrated drains, curbs and splash walls, each leak-proof unit is pre-pitched for easy drainage. By solving water intrusion problems, Tile Redi shower pans inhibit the growth of mold and mildew.
