LG Hausys, the U.S.-Based materials division of the globally recognized LG brand, has invested $50 million in a new manufacturing facility to match growing consumer demand for its Viatera collection of quartz surfaces. With the opening of its second production facility just outside Atlanta slated for December 2010, LG Hausys will become the only manufacturer to produce both solid surface and quartz countertop surfaces in the united states.
The hi-tech, 95,000 square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility fits in perfectly with LG Hausys' efforts to streamline operations in America. The factory sits adjacent to LG Hausys' first U.S.-based facility opened in 2004 to support production of its hugely successful HI-MACS brand of solid surface materials. With the opening of LG Hausys' second plant, the vertically-integrated global producer will have positioned itself to become the leading U.S. supplier of architectural countertop surfaces. The establishment of a new facility for Viatera serves as another indication of the LG Hausys brands growing presence with architects, designers, retailers and homeowners.
"There were several different aspects that went into our decision to make a substantial investment in the new facility," said Greg Vas Nunes, executive vice president of LG Hausys' surfaces division. "The first thing we always consider is our customers. And with the growing demand for quartz-style surfaces in residential and commercial interiors it was the right time for us to expand our production capabilities in the U.S. At the same time we'll be able to dramatically reduce lead times and increase the efficiencies in distribution. We've added another way to contribute to LEED certified projects with regionally produced sustainable quartz surfaces.
"It's a critical point in time for LG Hausys. The commitment we've made to the U.S. market with this facility has us well-prepared for long-term growth," Vas Nunes concluded.
